Technical Instruction

Apprentice Training Program Orientation - 30 req. hrs
This course will prepare an Apprentice for the requirements of participating in and completing their program, including topics such as record keeping of related instruction classes and on-the-job learning experiences, professional communication, time management, goal setting, self-advocacy and emotional intelligence, supervisor interaction preparation, growth mindset and training plans, building strong relationships, feedback and tough conversations, workplace conflict, and workplace safety and ergonomics.
Calibration Management System - 48 req. hrs
The course will cover the requirements of the standard, how it is applied to calibration and test laboratories, and what a technician who works for an accredited lab needs to know. On completion, there will be an understanding of what behavior and activities are required for the work to be conformant to the standard.

This course will focus on the concepts and theories related to mechanical and electrical schematics, which may include interpreting schematic diagrams and circuits.
Metrology Statistics and Mathematics - 20 req. hrs
This course aims to promote best practices in applications of mathematics and statistics to metrology, which may include contemporary methods and challenges in mathematical modeling and statistical data analysis for measurement science. Specific areas of application may include Measurement Uncertainty and Interlaboratory Comparisons, Data Analysis for Imaging, Uncertainty Quantification and Compositional Data Analysis.
Calibration Basics - 10 req. hrs
A introductory overview of physical measurement, dimensional measurement, AC-DC Metrology, Acoustics and Vibrations, and Microwave Principles
Measurement Uncertainty - 40 req. hrs
This course will teach how to quantify the uncertainty of a future result that has been corrected by the calibration curve. This course will teach the Apprentice how to determine how the uncertainty quantifies the possible difference between the calibrated value and its reference base.
Metrology Software Validation and Control - 4 req. hrs
This course will cover the topics and concepts related to metrology software validation and control, including creating the validation plan, defining the system requirements, creating validation protocol and test specifications, testing, reviewing procedures and final reporting.
Environmental, Health and Safety - 15 req. hrs
This course will cover the environmental health and safety concepts.
Misc. Business and Laboratory Support - 5 req. hrs
This course will focus on the examination of information systems and their role in business. Focus on information systems, database management systems, networking, e-commerce, ethics and security, computer systems hardware and software components. Application of these concepts and methods through hands-on projects developing computer-based solutions to business problems. (i.e. includes PPT, Word and Excel). This course will also cover Import/export compliance.
Leadership Skills - 30 req. hrs
This course will focus on developing leadership skills to improve performance on the job.
Physical Measurement - 144 req. hrs
This course will cover the basic concepts and calibration techniques related to Precision Force and Torque Measurement, Precision Pressure Measurement, Precision Temperature Measurement.
Dimensional Measurement - 144 req. hrs
This course will cover the basic concepts and calibration techniques related to Precision Length Measurement, This course will cover measurement techniques from gage blocks, to angle measurements, to optical comparators.
AC-DC Metrology - 144 req. hrs
This course will teach the basic concepts of ac/dc metrology, including the theory and application of Precision Electrical Measurement, thermal transfer standards to measure ac voltages and currents, definition of inductance and capacitance, and the measurement of impedance, admittance and immittance.
Acoustics and Vibration - 144 req. hrs
This course offers a deeper understanding of the many specialized disciplines within sound and vibration. This course will cover the latest in-depth theory, measurement techniques and details about specific instrumentation and technology.
